The slow left-arm magician of Sri Lanka Malinda Pushpkumara recently entered into the elite club of those spinners, who have taken 500 or more FC wickets in their career. For India, E Prasanna, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra and Anil Kumble achieved this feet. In Pakistan, there are Abdul qadir, Saqlain Mustaq, Mustaq Ahmad in the elite club. From Australia, Great Shane Warne and Stuart McGill are in this elite club. For Sri Lanka, Great murli is there, and Kumar Dharmsena missed the elite club by just five wickets.
These all are the legends of the game. Obviously , by joining them, Malinda is thrilled. “at 29, I am very much in the contest for the national team. I did everything, I could do, to get a national call. And I am confident, soon, selectors will also recognise my achievement” he told, with the sense of optimism.
Interestingly, some of the high profile spinners of Sri Lanka, who played for the national team over the years, like- sachitra senanayke, ajantha mendis does not feature in this elite club. it makes Malinda’s achievement more enjoyable for him.
Now, it’s up to selectors to make him feel, that he has achieved something unique for his country.
