The reason for Australia’s dominance in Test cricket off late has been the explosive starts provided by Warner. The vice-captain usually plays his attacking brand of Cricket in all formats, as he goes after the bowling from the outset. Against Team India too, he is very deadly. he has regularly punished India’s bowlers on the seam-friendly wickets back home, belting them for nearly 50 runs on average, but he has been neutered by the subcontinent’s flat pitches where he averages 24.41.
In the ongoing series too, he is struggling with the bat big time. His strike rate is 56 which is well below his career strike rate of 78.23.
The lefthander has cobbled together just 98 runs from four innings in the first two tests of the series in India and has fallen three times to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin — twice in last week’s defeat at Bangalore, which levelled the series 1-1.
As the series is levelled 1-1, Australian think tank desperately need big score from their explosive vice-captain.
