Wanidu Hasaranga’s Hat trick was the 8th ODI hat trick taken by a Sri Lankan, equaled highest by a country after 8 by Pakistan. He was also the 5th Sri Lankan to pick up a hat trick after 2 by Vass, 3 by Malinga and 1 each by Maharoof and Thisara, he is also the 1st Sri Lankan spinner to get a hat trick. Wanidu was also the 2nd youngest bowler to pickup a hat trick after Aaqib Javeed who took a hat trick at the age of 19 years and 81 days and Wanindu was 19 years and 338 days, in fact he is the youngest Sri Lankan to do so and the youngest debutant to do so.
Wanindu was the 3rd debutant after Taijul Islam and Kagiso Rabada to pick up a hat trick. Hasaranga is the first Leg-break bowler in the world to up a hat trick and he was also the 6th spinner after Saqlain, Razzak, Utseya, Islam and Duminy to pick up an ODI hat trick, 36 times it has been by fast bowlers.
This was the 42nd ODI hat trick in ODI’s and De Silva only has bowled 2.4 overs by the time the innings ended and this was the lowest number of overs bowled by a hat trick taker after the completion of the innings.
