“If a President-elect could bring his people to govern the nation, then there is nothing wrong if SLC president brings his own people to run the cricket board affairs.”
Those were the words, full of arrogance and unaccountablity, of Sri Lanka cricket board president Thilanga Sumathipala, at a media brief some time ago.
So, he has continuesly been running the SLC, as his own property, sans any kind of accountability. When, the most powerful cricket playing nation and a crowd puller- India has been playing it’s first full series in the island in three years, this could have been the opportunity for the SLC to repair their fast deteriorating image.
Instead, they chose to cash India tour to bennifited those, who were loyal in their all wrongdoings. During the first test in Galle, they offered tenders to their loyals like Christmas gifts! Open Tenders that have been called for rejected by Treasurer and President SLC, and Normal Marque and Chairs supplier were thoroughly sidelined.
In this wrongdoing, SLC were so much biased, that Meal orders were given to outside suppliers and not those suppliers, that were requested to quote by open tender procedure.
In another scam, Even though not many spectators were present at Galle during the first test, Marques had been placed, meals ordered and Catering were given to Treasurer’s buddies. Also some Tenders were also awarded to President SLC buddy, who is not a registered supplier.
But the most disheartening fact is that the country’s first and second citizens are in deep slumber, when such ruinous actions are taking place at SLC! And, it also seems that Mr. Sumathipala is accountable, but only to his loyals!
