18 August 2008,
Venue : Dambula
19 year old Virat Kohli, after stormed his way to team India with some record breaking knocks in domestic circle, debuted against Sri Lanka, as India’s both first choice openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were injured. In his first international match, Kohli opened the innings with Gautam Gambhir, but couldn’t make it big, as he was dismissed on paltry 12.
But that was the day, when of the greatest batsman of modern era had arrived!
And now, Kohli has returned to the place where it all started for him — only this time as a captain and not as an opener. The Delhi Dasher will lead his troops out on the Rangiri International Stadium in Dambulla on Sunday when India take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the upcoming limited overs series.
Now, he is indeed the greatest batsman of modern era! In all three formats of the game, he has already written some records, no-one else can imagine!
But, Dambula will always remain in his heart! After all, it’s his first international venue!
BCCI too sensed the importance of occasion, and posted a hearful message on instagram.
It will be interesting to see, whether this time around, Kohli will be able to make it or not!
