Asanka Gurusinha, the Manager of the Sri Lanka and a member of the Selection Committee, also a member of the 1996 World Cup, revealed that he came to serve his country, only after greats like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tilakratne Dilshan didn’t accept responsibility to move Sri Lanka cricket forward.
“Sanga, Mahela or Dilshan are the players who did not accept the new position. It’s not necessary to have my services, had they accepted the responsibility” he said in a interview to a Sinhala website.
“Thilanga is my good friend. He called me, so i thought it was a good time to help this young team. If I Sanga, Mahela and Dilshan are there, you do not need anyone like me. But I think this is the team that need someone like me” he added.
Gurusinha association with the Sri Lanka team has been turning out a disaster, as even lower ranked teams defeated them comprehensively. Coach Graham Ford also parted ways with SLC due to the interfering nature of Gurusinha.
