Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be considered for selection by England until the conclusion of an investigation into the incident that led to the former’s arrest this week.
Ben Stokes was taken in by police in Bristol on Monday and though he was released without charge as the authorities continue to investigate, but a video allegedly showing the altercation that led to Ben Stokes’ arrest emerged on Wednesday.
“Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be considered for selection for England international matches until further notice,” an ECB statement read.
“Each remains on full pay pending further ECB investigation and the ongoing Police investigation into an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday 25 September.
The announcement came a day after Stokes, England’s highest-profile cricketer and vice-captain of the test side, was named in the 16-man squad for the Ashes tour of Australia starting in November.
