Under the Administration of Thilanga Sumathipala, SLC has always been notorious for unaccountability, Non-transparency and mismanagement of various funds, meant for the development of the game in the country.
One of such high profile chapter under the Sumathipala regime was the Cricket Aid. Under the Cricket Aid wing two particular charity matches : In UK and in Australia, we’re the classic examples of the mismanagement of funds, Cricket Age can confirm on the basis of verified documents.
The documents also reveals that Crysantha Kapuwatha and Ravin Wickramaratne were behind that mismanagement fiasco.
Kapuwatha is a politician, and his close associate is Johnston who is with former President Mahinda Rajapakshe. Cricket Age has learnt that He supports Sumathipala unconditionally.
In the Cricket Aid fund raiser in U.K. In 2016, Kapuwatha was the Coordinator. However when COPE raised issues and the the concern raised in Parliament also, Kapuwatha stayed back and did not go to UK for the fund raiser which was a big flop.
More seriously, The funds collected, have not been accounted and funds spent out of SLC funds have not been revived by SLC.
Cricket Age has also learnt that Kapuwatha, being the Coordinator, is now answerable to SLC.
And, as if the mismanagement of funds was not enough, there were lot of mysterious things occurred to damage the image of Sri Lanka cricket.
Cricket Age has learnt that a container was shipped to SL in SLC treasurer Shammi Silva’s name and when checked it seems that the items sent were not the same that were received.
The questions need to be answered why ship goods were of Shammi Silva name, when it could have been in the name of SLC.
But, Kapuwatha, being a close and loyal aide of Sumathipala, has never spoke about these mysterious happenings. And, Now there are rumors, that Sumathipala is secretly planning to appoint him as the Vice President of SLC in order to sideline K. Mathivanan!
