In a shocking turn of events, Sri Lanka shorter formats Opener Danushka Gunathilika is set to face suspension from international cricket for misconduct during the Indian series, Cricket Age has reliably learnt. Selectors have immediately dropped him from the ODI squad against Pakistan.
The ExCo has received the proposal of his suspension for the approval today.
Cricket Age has learnt that he has been charged for drinking, partying, not going for physio appointments, drinking before fitness test. In all, he is in breach of about 4 clauses of contract and 2 of Constitution.
He has even got a bad Yo-Yo result after this and in a more serious offence he was partying till late midnight knowing he has a Yo-Yo in the next morning, a ExCo member told Cricket Age.
According to sources, Recommended punishment for his misconduct is suspension from 6 international matches and 20% fine from his contract fees.
This is one of the worst news for Sri Lanka before the start of ODI series against Pakistan in UAE. Gunathilika had been in form of his life since last six months, having played many match winning knocks in shorter formats. He was the highest run scorer in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, and even made a debut in the first test against India.
The first match of the five match ODI series will be played at Dubai on 13th October.
