Sri Lanka shorter formats opener Danushka Gunathilika is set to face six match suspension for his activities In a particular night club during the India series, Cricket Age has further learnt.
Cricket Age was the first and only to broke the news yesterday about the Gunathilika suspension.
Now, it has further learnt that Asanka Gurusinha, the Selector Cum manager of Sri Lanka team has conducted the inquiry on Gunathilika. That urban night club, situated at Colombo 4, has fast becomes the centre of the midnight life of the Colombo. Cricket Age has learnt that Gunathilika was frequent visitor of the club during the India series, by disobeying team management instructions. One of his best friend was also with him most of the times, but he escaped the suspension.
The decision of his suspension has been forwarded to the ExCo for approval yesterday.
Cricket Age has learnt that he has been charged for drinking, partying, not going for physio appointments, drinking before fitness test. In all, he is in breach of about 4 clauses of contract and 2 of Constitution.
Sources also revealed that he has even got a bad a Yo-Yo result after this and in a more serious offence, he was partying knowing he has a Yo-Yo in the next morning.
According to sources, Recommended punishment for his misconduct is suspension from 6 international matches and 20% fine from his contract fees.
This is one of the worst news for Sri Lanka before the start of ODI series against Pakistan in UAE. Gunathilika had been in form of his life since last six months, having played many match winning knocks in shorter formats. He was the highest run scorer in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, and even made a debut in the first test against India.
