Dashing allrounder Dasun Shanaka smashed a whirlwind century against West Indies A in the first day of second Four-day unofficial test at Trelawny Stadium Jamaica, yesterday.
Batting first, Sri Lanka lost two wickets early, with both openers Ron Chandragupta and Sadun Weerakoddy managed only single digit scores. But, Captain Dhananjaya De Silva formed a good partnership with Charith Asalanka for the fourth wicket. Fresh from a magnificent century in the first test, Dhananjaya made composed 73, while Asalanka made patient 41.
But it was Shanaka who made maximum impact with his brutal power hitting. Having got out after starts in the first test, Shanaka was in his destructive best today. He smashed 5 fours and 8 sixes in his 108 balls innings, and remained not out on 102, as Sri Lanka A all out on 294 in their first innings. It was a typical innings from dashing allrounder, filled with towering sixes. batting at number 7, he added 105 runs with Roshan Silva, after Sri Lanka A lost half of their side for just 137 runs.
In reply West Indies lost early wickets, and was reeling on 14/2 at stumps.
