Pakistan’s Captain Sarfraz Ahmed has dismissed claims made by Dinesh Chandimal that Sri Lanka’s recent two-match Test series win over them in the UAE was due to witchcraft. Further, He made it clear that while luck played a part in cricket but matches were won and lost on the field by players by their performances and his team lost the test series 2-0 due to poor batting performance.
“We lost the two Tests because of our poor batting and that is all,” Sarfraz said.
“If they could win Test matches because of witchcraft or magic, then they should have also won the ODI and T20 series,” he added further.
Recently, Sri Lanka test captain Dinesh Chandimal told reporters after returning to Colombo that he had received a special blessing from a meyni, or sorcerer, ahead of the Test series against Pakistan. Surprisingly, few days earlier Sri Lanka Sports Minister threatened to sue that sorcerer, after facing allegations over the same claims.
Sarfraz said as a Muslim, he believes that there was magic in the world but he doesn’t apply the same theory in Sports.
“I believe in the holy Quran and also that there was magic in the world, but in the Test series we just batted badly and lost chances to win,” said Sarfraz.
Pakistan’s former Legendary batsman Muhammad Yousuf also rubbished Chandimal’s claims.
“Don’t mix cricket with such things. Pakistan’s planning was bad and they messed it up,” said Yousuf.
Sri Lanka won the test series 2-0, but then comprehensively beaten in ODI and T20 series 5-0 and 3-0 respectively.
