Arjuna Ranatunga is the most iconic Cricketer in the history of Sri Lanka Cricket. He won the 1996 World Cup with a team of underdogs but commited players, and changed Sri Lanka Cricket forever!
Though, as soon as he turned a politician, he started to behave like Politicians. Of late, he gained the reputation of being an outright critics of Sri Lanka Cricket. Whatever happens, Good or bad, he just criticises!
On, Thursday, he did it once again. This time in parliament, though as always without facts.
Yesterday, there was budget debate on Sports Ministry at Parliament, and he used the occasion with perfection to attack on his Cricket enemies.
There is an open fact, of late, that Ranatunga wants to rule SLC once again. And, current SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala is the biggest obstacle in his way. Interestingly, Ranatunga himself never hidden his ambition.
So, at parliament, he once again launched an onslaught against SLC and it’s officials. Though, he forgot the facts!
He attacked Current Chairman of selectors Graeme Labrooy, treasurer Shammi Silva and Media Consultant Ranjan Paranavitana, for their multiple roles in Sri Lanka Cricket.
Labrooy is also the Match Referee. Paranavitana is a junior selector also and Shammi Silva is the president of CCC.
Though, he forgot that there is nothing wrong in taking multiple responsibilities, especially in Sri Lanka cricket.
In India, the most powerful cricket playing nation, Rahul Dravid is a national A team coach and also the coach of IPL team Delhi. Another Legend, VVS Laxman is a member of Cricket Commitee of BCCI and also is the mentor of Surisers Hyderabad team in IPL.
Even great Sachin Tendulkar is in that committee and also the mentor of Mumbai Indians!
Sad, Sri Lanka Legendary captain don’t know these facts!
Now, let’s forget about all this, and just look at what Arjuna’s brother Nishantha did in the past!
Nishantha Was the Secretary of SLC between 2011 to 2015. Interestingly, he was also the CEO of CSN, a Television Channel of Rajapakshe family!
Not only this, then he signed a contract to show cricket matches live on the channel, one side as the CEO CSN and other side as the secretary SLC!
Its not only the conflict of interest, but also the vialation sports law and SLC constitution. Though, it seems Arjuna don’t know about this!
Though, we should forget him for ignoring his own brother’s past, when he himself Wrongly said in the parliament yesterday that Sri Lanka U19 was beaten by Afghanistan in recently concluded Asia Cup.
It seems after the retirement, Legendary Captain doesn’t follow Cricket! Someone also needs to remind him that his own brother Nishantha ruined SLC so much, that he must not be allowed to drive down the road where Sri Lanka office is!
