Dashing allrounder Thisara Perera is all set to replace Upul Tharanga to become Sri Lanka new shorter formats captain before the upcoming ODI series against India, Cricket Age learns.
According to highly placed sources, Chandika Hathurusingha, who will take over as New Sri Lanka Coach is also in favour of Perera.
“Thisara impressed one and all during his captaincy during the T20I series against Pakistan recently, so he looks the most obvious choice to permanently lead Sri Lanka in shorter formats” a SLC Official told Cricket Age.
The thing that SLC is not on the opinion to appoint three different captains for the three existing formats, has also gone in the favour of Perera. Currently, Dinesh Chandimal is leading the test team, and as Thisara prospered as a captain during the Pakistan T20 series, means he is sure for the T20 reins. In that way, he seems a more sensible pick as a captain.
Pleasantly for Sri Lanka, after the struggle of many years to be consistent in his game, finally now he has been producing good performance rather frequently.
In the ongoing BPL too, he has been a revelation as an allrounder for his team Rangpur Riders. during his three weeks stay in Bangladesh, he did all, a cricketer wants to do in his all career : he won a match for his team Rangpur Riders of the last ball with the last ball yorker, then with a last ball six, he won it for them in the last over with the ball too.
Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and as many T20I against India. The ODI series will start from December 10.
