Pakistan bowling wizard, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, claimed that his one of the delivery hit Sachin Tendulkar’s pads right in front during their match against India in 2011 World Cup. The batsman was given out by umpire Ian Gould.
But to Pakistan’s dismay, and Ajmal’s surprise, the decision was over-turned as India used the DRS. In a recent interview to PTI after his retirement, Ajmal said he was totally convinced that the ball was going to hit the stumps.
“I was totally convinced I had him in front of the stumps but how the umpires didn’t give him out I still can’t understand,” Ajmal Said.
“I was 110% confident when the referral was made that the batsman was out,” Ajmal had said earlier. At that time Tendulkar was batting on 23, and later went on to score 85 runs, that got him The Man-of-the-match award.
His time in the limelight was cut short following a temporary ban for chucking, Ajmal returned to the sport in 2015 with a remodelled action but without much success.
“I am retiring with a heavy heart because firstly I think the ICC’s protocol is too harsh and if all bowlers today playing international cricket are tested I am sure at least 90 percent will fail to clear this protocol,” Ajmal said.
