However, the negative impact of Asanka Gurusinha has been the biggest unfortunate incident of Sri Lanka cricket throughout the year.
The main problem of Gurusinha with Sri Lanka team is his multitasking. There might not issue if had appointed only an a team manager. On only an a selector. However, he has been associated with the team in both the capacities and that’s where the problem started.
Anywhere in the world cricket, a selector’s job is to select a team and let them perform. Usually, after selecting a team selectors doesn’t involve in other things, like team composition, batting order, reshuffle and making match strategies.
However, As Gurusinha is the manager of the team as well, he directly influence in all these things as well. That’s why Graham Ford took the flight of South Africa, midway through his contract with SLC. that’s why Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda De Silva and Jayantha Dhamrmadasa parted ways with SLC. They all were on the same thought : A Multitasking Gurusinha will do more harm than good to Sri Lanka Cricket.

“Look after the retirement of Legends like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tilakratne Dilshan, this is a young Sri Lanka team. Most of the players are trying to establish themselves in the team and now the Captains are also just starting their new innings as leaders. Dinesh Chandimal is a thinking captain in test cricket, Thisara Perera showed he has the potential to prosper too. Now, what all they need is to freedom to make their team in the dressing room. Both the captains need a comfort level in dressing room, where they can laugh, argue and share their thoughts. Instead, SLC put a taskmaster in Gurusinha there. He is everywhere. He selects team with fellow selectors, then decides everything in the dressing room. So, logically, everyone can see, what’s the importance of the captain and Coach then. What I saw during my time around Sri Lanka team, is they are one of the least happy group of players under Asanka Gurusinha.” he shared his Assessment.
That’s why, Asanka Gurusinha needs to go after Hathurusingha arrival.
Hathurasingha has shown to the World that he can make a world class team, if he gets free hand. If Gurusinha remains there, it’s high possibility that another conflicts of interest will emerge very soon within Sri Lanka team!
