As Cricket Age published on 3rd January itself, Roshan Biyanwela, the higher ranked Air Force Officer, is set to be elected as new Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), during the EGM today.
Biyanwela has come through the ExCo Committee. There is a provision in SLC ExCo to nominate defence services. SLC Rotates it one by one between Army, Neavy and Air Force in every two years.
A highly respected person, Biyanwela is taking the responsibility at time when, Thilanga Sumathipala led SLC has been fighting for survival. All the big name of Sri Lanka cricket like Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda De Silva, Jayantha Dharmadasa have been parted ways with the board I’m recent months.
However, as he comes from a defence services background, one can hope that he would be able to work freely and with authority, within the SLC setup.
