Sri Lanka shorter formats captain Angelo Mathews Will Stay with the team till tomorrow and any decision regarding his further participation in the ongoing tri series will be taken only after getting his medical report, Cricket Age learns.
Mathews suffered a hamstring tightness, while batting in Sri Lanka’s unsuccessful run-chase against the Zimbabwe yesterday. Mathews struggled throughout his 60 ball 42, as Sri Lanka suffered defeat by 12 runs, despite the heroics of Thisara Perera.
There are reports in media, that he has already returned to Sri Lanka and Dinesh Chandimal will lead the team. However, when Cricket Age inquired, it learnt that he is still in Bangladesh, with the team and managment is closely monitoring his condition. Any decision regarding him will be taken only after seeing his report on tomorrow.
In recent times, Mathews has become a injury prone player and created lot of headache for Sri Lanka. He suffered a similar issue in December, when he had to return to the dressing room halfway through his third and 12th over of the Indian innings, as he suffered a grade one hamstring tear during the second T20I.
