As Thilanga Sumathipala, the president of Sri Lanka cricket board (SLC) has been entirely dedicated to the Local Elections on February 10, Nuski Mohammed, the former treasurer of the board, Will attend the ICC meeting in Dubai, Cricket Age learns.
The ICC meeting is scheduled Next Week in Dubai. However, Sumathipala has given us everything to the political campaign in lead up to the election. According to sources, the result of the election will decide his future as the President of SLC.
However, the nomination of Nuski Mohammed for the ICC meeting is surprising. Especially, given the fact that SLC has two vice presidents : Mohan De Silva (domestic cricket) and K. Mathivanan (International Cricket) and Roshan Biyanwila is also there as the secretary of the board.
In this kind of scenario, sending Nuski Mohammed, who is only a member of a sub committee and not even an ExCo member, raises questions.
Interestingly, in last ICC meeting at Auckland too, Sumathipala skipped and eventually Nuski Mohammed and SLC CEO Ashley De Silva attended the meeting. At that time also, there were reports that Sumathipala skipped due to ongoing match fixing investigation.
Notably, in recent times, ICC has at loggerheads with SLC over many issues. There is a anti Corruption unit who is investigating match fixing allegations, made by former pacer Pramodya Wickramsinghe, regarding the 2017 Zimbabwe series. Recently, the CEO of SLC Ashley De Silva tried to mislead by stating that ICC has given the clean chit to the board. However, within hours ICC denied his claims and made it clear that investigation is still going on.
