Virat Kohli, who has been setting new milestones week after week, surprisingly, hasn’t even made to the top 10 of Federation of International Cricket Association’s (FICA) list of top 10 T20 players in the newly released Player Performance Index. Kohli is presently the No. 1 ranked batsman in ICC ODI rankings, No. 2 in Test rankings and No. 3 in T20 rankings. Despite such credentials, it’s surprising to see that he is not even in the top 10 of a global scale which rates the top T20 batsmen in the world.
FICA has released the T20 Player Performance Index for the first time and it has Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell at the top, but Kohli hasn’t even made to the top 10 batsmen in the release, with West Indian all-rounder Sunil Narine at the number two spot behind the Aussie hard-hitter.
The T20 Player Performance Index is the first system to evaluate players’ performance based on both domestic and international cricket. Maxwell presently holds 786 points at the summit position and will be looking over his shoulder to overhaul the tally in the Pakistan Super League before the much-awaited Indian Premier League season begins on April 7. The IPL will bring about the changes in the rankings of several players considering, 58 of the top 100 players in the world are scheduled to take part in the cash-rich league.
