Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has praised U19 batting sensation Manjot Kalra’s shot making and also added that the left-handed resembles some of the former Indian cricketers, including Yuvraj Singh.
“Kalra played a heart-winning knock in the final of the World Cup final. A very talented left handed batsman. The most special thing in him is that he reminds me of a lot of players. I remember, he played a shot straight over the bowlers head off a full toss, I was talking to Kapil Paaji, he saw the shot and said, ‘This is Yuvraj’. He has the glimpses of Yuvraj” he said.
“When he plays a shot over mid-off, he resembles Shikhar Dhawan and then has glimpses of Suresh Raina when he plays a shot over the cover region. This guy is reminding us of a lot of players. You can expect his name to do the rounds in the coming years. However, there’s still a long way to go” he added further.
One of the emerging players from the Under-19 winning team, Kalra is an opening batsman. He scored an unbeaten hundred in the final of the World Cup which helped India to win their fourth Under-19 World Cup title.
