When Sri Lanka Cricket Board’s Controversial Vice President Blocks funds for Coaching Camp, Allowances for employees during Nidahas Trophy, It’s surprising to see how Women’s Cricket gets all the Funds, Even after continues debacle since last two years, and no progress at all under the supervision of Team’s Coordinator Apsari Tillakaratne.
Just before the Nidahas Trophy, K. Mathivanan refused to approve mere 1.5 Lakh rupees for a nationwide coaching camp, which could have done wonders for young cricketers, especially from the outstations.
During the Nidahas Trophy, All the employees of SLC ( including females as well) Gave their hundred percent for the success of the tournament and unconditionally performed their duties in extra hours as well. Two top officials of SLC went to Mathivanan with a proposal to give extra allowance of three thousands per match day for all the employees. K. Mathivanan refused it!
Sri Lanka Junior and domestic cricket has been suffering big time during Thilanga Sumathipala regime. Under 19 team has been without a sponsor since last two years. After the disastrous showing in U19 World Cup in January, SLC decided to replace Roy Dias, but they haven’t gotten the time yet to finalize a new Coach. There are no future A tours for the emerging team’s as well.
Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket, however, continuesly getting all the funds, tours, home series.
Since last two years, Sri Lanka Women’s team produced only disasters. They knocked out embarrassingly in the first round of the world cup last year.
No batswomen other than Chamari Athapaththu and Shashikala Siriwardane has performed consistently. Few years back west indies, Pakistan were far below Sri Lanka, Now all they ranked ahead. Now, there is another interesting twist. Even Women’s players also being treated poorly, as they are getting only a 100$ match fees plus 35$ dinner allowance.
Amidst all these things, Apsari Tillakaratne has continuesly been touring nationwide. According to SLC she scouts talents, but national team is yet to get a single special player from her guidance. Whenever she goes, she gets hefty allowances, plus accommodation in five star hotels, and everything she wishes!
The question is simple : what Sri Lanka Cricket is getting with all these time wasting exercise? And Why SLC is only interested in women’s cricket? Is there any perameter to judge Apsari Tillakaratne’s contribution?
