Sri Lanka Dashing Left-hander Kusal Perera has been rested for the first match of his team Dambula against Kandy in the super provincial four day tournament. Perera has a stiff back and team management has rested him as a precaution, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Sri Lanka Cricket board (SLC) ambitious Super Provincial tournament kicked off yesterday. In its first match, The Dambula team is playing against Kandy at FTZ, Katunayake. However Kusal Perera, who has been named vice captain of the team, was not included in the playing XI.
“He is suffering with a stiff back. Though, nothing serious, we rested him as a precaution” a team official told Cricket Age.
Perera has been in sensational form in last few series, he played. He was the highest run scorer in the recently concluded Nidahas trophy, with three half centuries in four matches.
However, at the same time, he has constantly been struggling with injuries in recent times. He had to miss Three T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this year, due to same injury.
On March 28, Cricket Age broke the news that IPL Franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad has approached Perera as a replacement for tainted David Warner, who has been banned for a year by Cricket Australia following his involvement in Ball tampering incident.
