Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) President Thilanga Sumathipala, who is also the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees, on yesterday, complained to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake had threatened him following the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament on Wednesday.

In a statement, he said Minister Dissanayake blasted at him in a rowdy manner near the elevator at the second floor.

“In front of police officers, Minister Dissanayake threatened to remove me from the post of Deputy Speaker. Several ministers who witnessed this incident mediated and tried to explain to the minister that his behaviour was indecent,” Sumathipala said. He has made a request to The Honourable Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to do an inquiry against Dissanayake Behavior.

However, on the other hand, Dissanayake has denied such incident.

“The Speaker has not approached me regarding such a complaint. If one needs any clarification on the issue, he or she may view the video footages recorded in CCTV cameras at the location where the incident is alleged to have taken place,” he said.

On Wednesday, Sumathipala, along with his closest friend Dayasiri Jayasekara, voted against Country’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe during the No Confidence Saga.

After Prime Minister emerged winner in the Saga, Dissanayake immediately made it clear that UNP would bring a No Confidence Motion against Sumathipala, in order to remove him as deputy speaker.

“UNF will move a No faith motion against deputy speaker Thilanga Sumathipala who has acted in a capricious, arbitary and unfair manner without acting independently in the current no faith motion….we will do this in the next parlimentary session” he said.
