Team India’s dashing middle order batsman and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik has criticised the referees for “poor refereeing” during his wife and national squash player Dipika Pallikal’s mixed doubles match with Sourav Ghosal for the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 on Saturday.
Dinesh Karthik took to Twitter to express his displeasure and said how ‘upsetting’ it was to watch the ”poor refereeing’ in the match. He said he expected the ‘refereeing’ to be a lot more fair considering it being a battle for the gold medal.
Dinesh Karthik further added that he is proud of what Dipika and Sourav have achieved this week and called them the real winners.
“So upsetting to watch such poor refereeing at the Squash mixed doubles finals in Gold Coast. Surely expected it to be a lot more fair being a Gold Medal match! So proud of what you guys have achieved this week sauravghosal and dipikapallikal . Chin up , you guys are the real winners to me and our entire nation! (sic)”
Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal settled for the silver medal in the mixed doubles squash event of the Commonwealth Games at Australia’s Gold Coast, becoming the first Indian pair to achieve the feat in the sporting extravaganza. The Indians lost 0-2 (8-11 10-11) to home favourites Donna Urquhart and Cameron Pilley in 29 minutes.
