In an embarrassing turn of events, Thilanga Sumathipala led Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) administration seems to be totally forgot the Sir Garry Sobers – Michael Tissera Trophy, As The SLC Or board CEO Ashley De Silva didn’t mention the name of trophy even at once during his press conferences so far, regarding the tour.

Sri Lanka Team is scheduled to play three test match against West Indies, with first test starting from June 6.

In 2015, the West Indies Cricket Board and SLC had mutually agreed to name all the future test series between two countries as Garfield Sobers – Michael Tissera Trophy, in order to pay tribute to their respective legends. The first test series, named as Garfield Sobers – Michael Tissera, played in 2015 in Sri Lanka, and Angelo Mathews led team won the two test match series 2-0.

However, as now Sri Lanka is touring West Indies, the name of the trophy was not mentioned anywhere.

“That’s how Thilanga Sumathipala led administration pays tribute to legends. It’s pathetic, and embarrassing as well, that they forgot to mention the name of the legends” A former SLC President told Cricket Age.

In 2015, Former Sri Lanka player Sidath Wettimuny was the President of Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee.

“President changes, administration changes. But, Ashley De Silva, as CEO Of SLC, must remember how to respect legends of the game. This serious blunder proves once again that Ashley doesn’t deserves to be the CEO” He further added.

Michael Tissera Played three ODIs for Sri Lanka in pre-test era and was a member of 1975 World Cup team.

Sir Garfield Sobers, meanwhile, has been considered as the greatest allrounder of all time.
