In mysterious circumstances, someone from the Coaching staff has invited Thilina Kandambi, former Sri Lanka player, During the Recently concluded Two week training session of Sri Lanka Cricket team in Pallekele to prepare for the upcoming West Indies Tour, Cricket Age reliably learns.
For the preparation of the West Indies test series, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) had organized a training camp of the selected 21 players in Pallekele. According to SLC, the decision was taken after the recommendation came from Team’s head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
However, during the two week long training Camp, Thilana Kandambi also participated. According to sources, Kandambi is not part of Sri Lanka High Performance Coaches (HPC), Thus is not eligible to take part in the national team training Camp. A dashing left-handed batsman of his time, Kandambi Played 39 ODIs for Sri Lanka and currently is coaching Royal College, Colombo.
“SLC has established High Performance center at Khetterama, where Many Past Cricketers like Nuwan Zoysa, Chaminda Vaas, Jeewantha Kalatunga are part of the Coaching Pool. Ideally, if there was an need, SLC should have sent Any of the Coach from that Pool. However, mysteriously, Thilina Kandambi went there and participated in the team’s training for few days” An Insider from the Camp told Cricket Age in term of Animonity.
The most interesting thing is even SLC is clueless about this happening. Few days ago, there were reports that Kandambi has been tipped to take over as Sri Lanka U19 Coach replacing Avishka Gunawardana.
Now, this has become another mystery for SLC, that who invited Kandambi During the Training Camp?
