Faizer Mustapha, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, is most likely to appoint an interim committee to run the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) after Court has postponed the Election, were scheduled for tomorrow, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Hearing a petition on Wednesday, filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga against incumbent President Thilanga Sumathipala, Appeal Court issued stay order preventing election from being held until June 14.
However, the outcome of the petition suggests this court battle will last for long, as the appeal Court has marked total of 12 allegations against Sumathipala and his Team.
“Court has given June 14 for next hearing. This will probably go for months and this a big victory against Sumathipala’s wrongdoings” an elated Nishantha Ranatunga told Cricket Age.
In this scenario, an interim committee seems the most logical thing.
“Sports Minister can’t appoint same elected body to run the SLC as interim committee, as Court has marked serious allegations against them as well. In this scenario, the Sports Minister must include people with good governance into the committee” he told further.
