In order to pretend in front of the international Cricket Council (ICC) that they have zero tolerance against match fixing, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) Immediately suspended three former players Jeewantha Kalatunga, Tharindu Mendis and Tharindu Indika, Who were the part of the board.
However, the past association of Jeewantha Kalatunga and Tharindu Mendis With the SLC and Former Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara tells another story!
According to sources, Kalatunga had to leave SLC, when Sidath Wettimuny, the President of interim committee in 2015, didn’t extend his contract after a controversy.
However, after being discarded from the SLC, after some time Kalatunga went to Dayasiri side. Reportedly, he provided school kids for Dayasiri Hettipola Cricket Club and in return for the opportunity to become the Coach of the Club. Interestingly, Tharindu Mendis, the other accused of Galle Pitch Fixing Saga, was the captain of Dayasiri’s Club at that time.
As Dayasiri was the Sports Minister at that time, Kalatunga managed to return to SLC as the Western Provincial Coach.
All these things seems to be linked with each other now, especially after the Al Jazeera documentary. In this scenario, Dayasiri and SLC must issue an statement that how Tharindu Mendis and Jeewantha Kalatunga associated with Sri Lanka Cricket?
