Written by Vipin Darwade

Till the final ball of the game, it looked like India will retain the T20 Asia Cup Trophy but a good piece of running between the wickets saw Bangladesh’s batsmen completing the required two runs on the final ball and pocketing the title.

A good start and 16 runs from the over of Jhulan Goswami in the 15th over were the two factors in Bangladesh’s success. Unlike India, they didn’t rely on a single player as every batter got a start, which proved to vital at the end of the game. Poonam Yadav was the sole bowler who stood up for the team with four wickets for just nine runs from four overs.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also scalped two wickets while other remained wicketless. She took the responsibility to defend nine runs off the final over and was able to drag the game till the final ball. With a win, Bangladesh also ended team India’s domination in the Asia Cup.

Earlier in the day, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the team from the front in the final of the T20 Asia Cup as riding on an innings of 56 off 42 from her, India posted a total of 112/9. The Women in Blue didn’t have a great start and suffered jitters in the middle overs. It was only after Harmanpreet took a complete control of the game that India steered ahead and scored a competitive total.
