Court Asks For Fresh SLC Election On Sports Minister Guidelines

The Court of Appeal has ordered Sports Ministry to held the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) Election At earliest, Cricket Age reliably learns. The verdict came on Thursday during a hearing on the case filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga against Thilanga Sumathipala. However, Even after Court verdict, the election process will most likely take more than five months, so the next AGM Can possibly be held only in November-December.

According to sources, the Court has also Instructed Competant Authority to run the SLC till then.

In addition, AG’s department will give the roadmap how to hold the Election in keeping with the Sports Law and the Constitution by 4th July.

“After the Court instructions, the AG’s department will suggest about the election process to Sports Ministry. First we will have to serve three months notice and will have to form the election committee. Then additional 40 days for calling the AGM. So in most probability, the AGM Can be held only after November” A top official of Sports Ministry told Cricket Age.

Thilanga Sumathipala led administration had to leave SLC, after The Court of Appeal Gave a stay order on AGM, was scheduled to be held on May 31st.

Since then, SLC is under the observation of Sports Ministry Appointee Competent Authority.
