Team India’s shorter formats opener Rohit Sharma is all set to undergo the yo-yo test on Sunday, which will decide his availability for the series against Ireland and England. The right-handed batsman flew to the USA after the end of IPL and went to Russia to watch the FIFA World Cup. He wasn’t the part of the group of players who underwent the test on June 15 at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.
“Rohit had taken permission from the BCCI for his personal engagements (he is in Russia as a brand ambassador of a watch company). There’s no rule that all tests have to be conducted on the same day. He will be appearing for the YoYo Test tomorrow,” GM (cricket Operations) Saba Karim told.
The players who are part of the limited-overs squad for the tour of UK underwent the test on June 15. Each and every player, barring Ambati Rayudu, cleared the test. As a result of failing to achieve the desired fitness mark, he was also dropped from the Indian team and has been replaced by Suresh Raina, who cleared the test.
Earlier, BCCI had also dropped Mohammed Shami from the Indian team for Afghanistan Test after he failed in the yo-yo test while Sanju Samson was also dropped from India A due to the same reason.
