A Pakistan cricketer has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance, although his identity is yet to be confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB revealed the news via a tweet this morning, but said it was not yet able to reveal the name of the player.
“A player has reportedly tested positive for a prohibited substance. But under ICC rules PCB cannot name the player or chargesheet him until the chemical report is CONFIRMED by the Anti-Dope Agency of the government. We should have an answer in a day or two” the tweet reads.
The name of a player, and the substance he’s alleged to have tested positive for, has been shared on social media although that rumour has not been confirmed.
Cricketers can be banned for up to two years if found guilty of taking banned substances, depending on the nature of the case. In 2015, Pakistan spinner Raza Hasan returned a positive test for cocaine and was banned for two years.
