Former First-Class player Sajith Fernando has been appointed as the Manager of the Sri Lanka Emerging Team for the Series Against South Africa emerging team, Cricket Age reliably learns.
The series to be played from 28th July to 20th August.
Sajith was serving as the national selector in previous committee, and Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is looking him as one of the candidates for the high profile National Team Manager post, as Asanka Gurusinha to be transferred as High Performance Manager.
“As Sajith has served as a national selector, he suits for the national team Manager. Nothing is finalized as yet, but yes in long term he will be in the contention for the post, that’s why he has been appointed as the manager of the Sri Lanka Emerging team” A top SLC Official told Cricket Age.
Sajith Fernando is one of the ‘lost generation’ of players unable to break into national side during the late nineties because of a settled top order and SLC politics.
A stylish left-hander of his time, Sajith played a Mountainous 193 first-class games and scored over ten thousand runs. He was one of the most consistent performer in the domestic circuit for over a decade.
After retirement from first class cricket, he also turned out a highly successful coach for one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent Nondescript Cricket Club.
