SL Coach Chandika Hathurusingha Stuck In West Indies

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Chandika Hathurusingha, the high profile Coach of Sri Lanka, has been stuck in West Indies as he is still not able to get the Visa For his UK Trip, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Sri Lanka Team returned to Sri Lanka on Saturday after levelling the three test series 1-1. However, Hathurasingha didn’t come with the team and in his absence, Test Captain Dinesh Chandimal and departing manager Asanka Gurusinha took part at SLC Press Conference.

“Hathurasingha did not arrive in Sri Lanka with the team, as he was scheduled to go to UK. However, as he couldn’t get visa on time, he has been stuck in West Indies” A top SLC Official told Cricket Age.

This is noteworthy that Hathurusingha, along with Chandimal and Gurusinha, faces further reprimand for their role in holding up play for two hours, from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The hearing will take place on July 10.

The trio have been charged with a ‘level 3’ offence for conduct contrary to the spirit of the game and may face severe sanctions (despite all three pleading guilty) owing to the seriousness of the offence and the need to discourage un-cricket like conduct.

A level 3 offence carries with it a minimum ban of two Test matches up to a maximum of four; or four ODIs up to a maximum of eight. This means, in all probability, Chandimal and Hathurusingha will not be available for the two-match Test series against South Africa, starting July 12, two days after the scheduled hearing.

South Africa team has arrived arrive in Sri Lanka yesterday evening for the bilateral series. During their 42 days stay in the Island, South Africa to play Two tests, five ODIs and one-off T20I.

The first test between two sides to kick off from 12th July in Galle.
