Thilanga Sumathipala, former President Of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) Will meet Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha on Thursday after new developments took place yesterday, Cricket Age reliably learns.
On Wednesday, four Former SLC Presidents Jayantha Dharmadasa, Sidath Wettimuny, Arjuna Ranatunga and Ana Punchihewa met Mustapha and requested him for the appointment of the interim committee.
In another major development, There was a hearing at Court Of Appeal yesterday against Sumathipala and SLC based on a complaint filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga. After the hearing, Court, however, gave 3rd September as the next date to Sports Ministry to produce the Roadmap for the SLC election in proper manner. On 3rd October too, if the Ranatunga Side takes objection against the roadmap, then court will further push the proceedings for another date. In this scenario, SLC election most likely to be held only in 2019.
Sumathipala’s today’s meeting with Mustapha seems crucial in this situation.
“With his political influence, he will try his best to stop the possibility of the interim committee, because if Interim committee comes all the wrongdoings of his administration in last year’s will be exposed” A former SLC President told Cricket Age.
It is noteworthy that Sumathipala has always raised questions against Interim committee by giving false statements that ICC would not accept it. The reality is that Even in India, the most powerful cricket board BCCI has been running by Supreme Court appointed Committee since last two years.
