In the absence of Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha, Sri Lanka’s batting Coach Thilan Samaraweera conducted a training session On Saturday ahead of the first test against South Africa, starting from July 12.
Sri Lanka to play two tests, five ODIs and one-off T20I Against touring South Africa in July and August.
Hathurusingha Participation, however, is still not confirmed as ICC will announce its verdict against Sri Lankan Coach along with test captain Dinesh Chandimal and departing manager Asanka Gurusinha for their involvement in the two hours delay of the play during the second test against West Indies recently.
As the ICC Verdict will be announced on July 10, there is a possibility for both Chandimal and Hathurusingha to be banned at least for two tests. Sri Lanka, however, have included Chandimal into the squad as well as named him the captain of the side, hoping that he might get a reprieve from the ICC.
Meanwhile, Hathurusingha didn’t return to Sri Lanka with the team after finishing West Indies tour. According to SLC, he was supposed to go to UK for inspection before the World Cup, but couldn’t go due to delay in visa process. It’s still unclear whether he will return for the South Africa series or not.
