Team India’s charismatic wicket keeper batsman MS Dhoni entered the 10,000 runs ODI club with his 59-ball 37 against England in the second ODI of the ongoing three match-series. Dhoni became the 4th Indian to achieve the feat and was congratulated by former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara, who had a special message for the former Indian skipper.
After Dhoni’s remarkable feat, Sangakkara posted a special message for him on Twitter.
“Congrats @msdhoni on the 10,000. The batting position, the strike rate, the impact and the average make it phenomenal,” he wrote on Twitter.
Dhoni joined the elite list of top-class batsman which features three Indian legends in Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Overall he became the 12th batsman to achieve the feat and the second wicketkeeper-batsman to make it into the group. Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara is the only other wicketkeeper-batsman with more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. He is the all-time second highest run-getter in the format, behind only Sachin with 14234 runs in 380 innings.
Dhoni, who has played as a number five or a six batsman for the majority of his career, is the only one to achieve the 10,000 run mark at an average of more than 50. What makes the feat more stunning is that 75% of Dhoni’s 10,000 runs have been scored at the number 5 position. No wonder he is considered as one of the best finishers in the game.
