Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun, who grabbed the limelight after a tidy spell on his India U-19 debut, failed to get off the mark during the first youth Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Arjun faced 11 deliveries before being dismissed by Shashika Dulshan.
The 18-year-old had claimed his first international wicket on Tuesday, dismissing Kamil Mishara – trapping the left-handed batsman leg before for nine runs. Mishara had hit Arjun, a left-arm pacer, for two fours but the youngster had his revenge in his second over. He returned figures of 11-2-33-1.
After bowling out Sri Lanka U-19 for 244, India rode centuries from Ayush Badoni (185*) and opener Atharwa Taide (113) to post 589, taking a first-innings lead of 345 runs. Arjun Tendulkar was part of Mumbai’s U-19 squad in the Cooch Behar Trophy last season where he picked up two five-wicket hauls.
He returned with 18 wickets overall at an average of 25.22. Both his five-fors included the scalps of the opposition’s top four batsmen.
