India To Begin New Zealand Tour With Napier ODI

Written by Abhishek Patil

The Indian men will travel to New Zealand after finishing their commitments in Australia, and kick off the white-ball leg with the first ODI in Napier on January 23, 2019, marking the return of international cricket to McLean Park after one season devoted to redevelopment of the venue. The last of the five ODIs will be at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on February 3.

The Indian women will start their ODI series, also at McLean Park, on January 24, the final match slated for Hamilton on February 1. The double-header T20Is will be played on February 6, 8 and 10.

The tour by the Indian teams is the highlight of a busy schedule that will see the India A team, as well as the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi men’s sides, travelling to New Zealand.

The Kiwis will play two Tests against Sri Lanka and, after the ODI engagements against India, run into Bangladesh in a three-Test series in March.

Anthony Crummy, the NZC chief operating officer, said the schedule was rich in content. “It’s exciting to have the India men’s and women’s team here,” he said. “The men are currently ranked No. 2 in ODIs and T20s – and the women arrive as ICC Cricket World Cup finalists.”

Indian teams’ schedule in New Zealand in 2019:

January 23: First ODI (Napier)

January 26: Second ODI (Mt Maunganui)

January 28: Third ODI (Mt Maunganui)

January 31: Fourth ODI (Hamilton)

February 3: Fifth ODI (Wellington)

February 6: First T20I (Wellington)

February 8: Second T20I (Auckland)

February 10: Third T20I (Hamilton)
