Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) comedy-star Ashley de Silva has had the rug pulled out from under him by Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha by cancelling his plans to loot the board money big time, Cricket Age reliably learns.
According to sources, Mustapha has cancelled an exorbitant dinner that was to be hosted by Ashley on 10th August at the Shangri-La, which was claimed to be a “team dinner” for the visiting South African team.
However the Sports Minister has put a complete stop to such expenses when he heard that Ashley has planned to spend nearly 10,000 per person on a sit down dinner for a completely unnecessary event.
Cricket Age reliably learned that the Minister has in no uncertain terms vetoed unnecessary and unjustifiable expenses, insisting on proper procurement practices and has called Ashley out on this ridiculous scheme to waste SLC funds.
It is learned that incompetent advisor to the Competant Authority, Ashley de Silva had convinced the Minister to have the dinner by claiming it is a ‘host obligation.’ however Minister Mustapha, a President’s Counsel, when did his homework, found that SLC has not hosted any team dinners since 2016, and even that event has cost less than Rs. 2 Million vs. the over Rs. 10 Million budget for this dinner.
Minister Mustapha, in order to curb unwanted spending, has instructed Competant Authority Kamal Padmasiri to cancel the dinner and ensure that no such unnecessary spending occurs.
