Sri Lanka Cricket found itself in a controversy on Monday, after it emerged that certain past administrators used board’s logo and hoarding for their personal press conference.
On August 9, Sumathipala Led administration, who had to leave the SLC on May 31st after failing to conduct election on time, organized a Press Conference at Colombo Cricket Club (CCC).
During the press conference, they blamed Competent Authority to abrupt the progress of Sri Lanka Cricket and claimed that Sumathipala is the best person to rule SLC!
Though, Sumathipala was not there, his close associates Shammi Silva, Bandula Dissanayake, Sujeewa Godaliyadda were present at the Press Conference to launch a campaign against Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha and his competent authority Kamal Padmasiri.
Furthermore, a SLC brought the hoarding from the headquarter and put at the CCC. During the press conference, that hoarding was visible in the background.
However, when Cricket Age inquired, it emerged that using the SLC logo by any of the stakeholder is unethical and breach of the constitution. According to SLC constitution, the logo can only be used by the board and for the board purpose.
“We as stakeholders are not allowed to use SLC Logo. Even if the ICC, ACU or even sponsor’s want to use SLC Logo, they will have to take the permission. That’s what we have been told for decades” A stakeholder of one of the most prominent domestic cricket club told Cricket Age.
Shammi Silva, who alleged Competent Authority during the Pres conference for the current status of Sri Lanka Cricket, is the President of the CCC.
“If Shammi Silva can use the SLC logo, then CEO Ashley De Silva must write a letter to all the stakeholders to allow them to use the logo” he added.
There are 85 stakeholders at the SLC, however, CCC always benefited the most by Sumathipala Led administration, as Shammi Silva comes from their group.
Another notable thing is that they called a press conference to make allegations against Sports Minister and his competent authority, that too by using the SLC logo. It means, they used SLC as a platform to make allegations against Sports Minister!
“Honorable Sports Minister must order for an inquiry in this matter. If I want to held a Press conference, I will have to use my club logo. It’s as simple as that. This is a very serious thing for Sri Lanka Cricket that a certain Camp is still using SLC as a platform for their revival” he added further.
