Akila Dhananjaya To Miss Two Asia Cup Matches

Sri Lanka’s majestic off spinner Akila Dhananjaya is set to miss two matches of the upcoming Asia Cup due to family reasons, Cricket Age reliably learns.

“Akila will be unavailable for 15th and 17th september matches due to his child birth” a top SLC Official told Cricket Age.

 

The tournament will commences on 15 September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Group A, while India and Pakistan will take on either Malaysia, Oman, UAE, Nepal, Singapore or Hong Kong in Group B. The top two teams in both groups progress to to the semi-finals, before the final will commence on Friday 28 September.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announce their 16-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament on Saturday. The most noticeable inclusion was that of veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga, who returns after a year in limbo.

35-year-old Malinga had made his last ODI appearance in September 2017 against India in Colombo when he took just one wicket for 35 runs. Sri Lanka lost the match by six wickets.

Sri Lanka squad: Angelo Mathews (Captain), Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga, Dinesh Chandimal, Danushka Gunathilaka, Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Dhanajaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Dilruwan Perera, Amila Aponso, Kasun Rajitha, Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera and Lasith Malinga.
