Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha is still keeping suspense in appointing the management committee to run Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), due to some ‘mysterious’ reasons.
On August 29, Faizer and SLC officials met the International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO David Richardson and Chief Shashank Manohar. After the meeting, ICC top officials instructed Faizer to immediately appoint the four members management committee to run the SLC until the election.
However, even after eight days, Faizer has not been able to finalize anything.
Cricket Age learns that Faizer has some other plans. Even though the ICC has given clear instructions to appoint people’s with good governance and cricket skills into the management committee, he is trying to bring his own people.
“After the his meeting with the ICC, Faizer went to Jakarta for Asian games. There, he told Sri Lanka journalists that he would prefer to appoint people’s with non cricketing background into management committee” a journalist, who was there at time, told Cricket Age.
It seems that Faizer is still not ready to leave the SLC and conduct the elections. After returning from Dubai, he has given statements, stating he would opt for the elections only after amendments. This is even after the ICC has given instructions to hold election before February 9.
In addition, even though, on the instructions of Court Of Appeal, the AG’s department, in July itself, asked Faizer to submit a roadmap for the SLC election. Till now, Sports Ministry hasn’t submitted anything!
According to sources, Faizer is determined to stay at SLC as long as possible, as there is apparently a TV broadcasting deal in next few months. So, instead of bringing Sri Lanka Cricket back on track, he is planning to bring his more people’s this time through management committee, so they can ‘manage‘ certain things with perfection!
