Angelo Mathews removal from the ODI side for the upcoming series against England has created a stir in Sri Lanka cricket. Shocked by his removal, Cricket fans are blaming chief selector Graeme Labrooy. On social sites, Labrooy has emerged as the biggest ‘villain’ of these saga.
However, this time, it is not the fault of Labrooy. Instead, Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurasingha should be held responsible for Mathews removal.
As Cricket Age has published in past as well, former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala had brought Hathurusingha for wrong reasons : to hide his administration’s wrongdoings and incompetence!
That’s where he commited the mistake by giving Hathurusingha all the powers. As per the SLC constitution, on overseas tours, team manager becomes selector on tour. Sumathipala modified the constitution and named Hathurusingha as one of the selector as well. With this additional power, Hathurusingha becomes chief selector on over your. He coaches the team, selects the team and finalizes match strergey.
And, this is not only about overseas tour! Labrooy and his Co selectors only follows the instructions of Hathurusingha in finalizing the squad.
In all, Hathurusingha holds the control over every single aspect of the national team and selectors, manager and all others are bound to just follow his instructions!
Hathurusingha is a coach by profession. Sumathipala turned him as a ‘Messiah’ of Sri Lanka cricket! Sumathipala has perished, but he has created a big headache for Sri Lanka cricket!
Only good thing is everyone has realized now that bringing Hathurusingha was one of the biggest blunder in Sri Lanka cricket history.
“To be honest, he has nothing to offer Sri Lanka Cricket. Sri Lanka team and players are not too much comfortable with his multitasking” a prominent person in national team coaching setup told Cricket Age in term of anonymity.
Many players have already raised questions againt Hathurusingha. Mathews has already been removed. So is the Suranga Lakmal, who dared to ask Hathurusingha about his exclusion from the Afghanistan match in the Asia Cup. The message is loud and clear : whoever will challenge Hathurusingha, Will be kicked out!
Not only the players, Sri Lanka ‘national pool’ coaching staff is also upset with Hathurasingha, as since his arrival they have been completely sidelined.
Most importantly, now SLC has also realized that Hathurusingha is messing up everything!
“At the board, Top to bottom, all have realized that Hathurusingha has turned out a white elephant” a top SLC Official told Cricket Age in term of anonymity.
All these proves, that Hathurusingha is the wrong person at wrong time at wrong place!
