Deputy Minister and popular film actor Ranjan Ramanayake has written to International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking a clarification about his eligibility to contest Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) election.
“He has asked the ICC that whether former SLC head Thilanga Sumathipala was eligible to contest 2016 SLC Election despite “common knowledge that Sumathipala is directly or indirectly involved in gambling business through his family business” a source, close to Ramanayake, told Cricket Age.
Sumathipala led administration had to leave the SLC on May 31st due to failing to hold the election on time.
Ramanayake has always been very vocal against Sumathipala’s administration wrongdoings. In past too, he had exposed plenty of financial irregularities of Sumathipala led administration through press conferences.
Sumathipala’s involvement in gambling business is nothing new! Entire world cricket knows that his family has actively been involved in the gambling business since decades. However, the surprising thing is that ICC has never questioned Sumathipala about his links with gambling industry, even though the cricket’s governing body talks big against corruption and match fixing!
