Until few months ago, Thilanga Sumathipala was the most powerful person at Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC). He was like a one man army, was running SLC like his family business. He had a gang of looters, who were doing curruption for fun!
And mind you, he was that much arrogant that he didn’t invite world’s greatest spinner Muttiah Muralitharan for a trophy presentation in 2016, even though that test series against Australia was named as ‘Murali-Warne’ trophy!
Time has changed now! Sumathipala has been knocked out from the SLC. More importantly, he has lost his political power as well, after he voted against country’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe few months ago!
Nishantha Ranatunga, another bigwigs of Sri Lanka Cricket, has dragged Sumathipala to court and made his life more miserable. Whatever Sumathipala is claiming to his Camp and supporters, the truth is that with this court case, where Nishantha has submitted over 1800 pages as evidence against Sumathipala, it is impossible for him to make a comeback at SLC!
Insiders knows that Sumathipala is finished. Insiders also knows that now Sumathipala is trying hard to bring two top politicians of the country together for his revival.
However, this is also a myth! A lie, Sumathipala is telling to his supporters, so they will remain in his side!
The truth is that Country’s President has completely discarded Sumathipala. Few months ago, Sumathipala tried to owe him by inviting him for one of his Sumathi Group Event! President chose to fly overseas few hours before!
Now, the truth about Mahinda Rajapaksa’s association with Sumathipala. After being thrown out from president’s camp, now Sumathipala is trying hard to come closer to Rajapaksa’s. Last month, he participated in Rajapaksa’s one of the protest, and his supporters circulated those photographs everywhere by claiming that all is well!
Today morning, at a event at Waters edge, Sumathipala again went behind Mahinda Rajapaksa! Just after meeting, his supporters circulated photographs everywhere, by claiming that all is well. In reality, nothing is well!
“The thing is that Sumathipala is again and again trying to owe Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, the former president believes that Sumathipala has ruined the cricket in the country, a game every Sri Lankan loves. So, as for as Cricket is concerned, The former president will never ever support Sumathipala” a close associate of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was present at the event today, told Cricket Age.
The most surprising thing is that in past, Sumathipala has openly accused Rajapaksa’s for nepotism, bad governance and corruption. Now, Rajapaksa Camp is well aware that for his survival, Sumathipala is using his name!
“Even if there is a coalition between the former president and current president party’s, they certainly don’t need Sumathipala is a mediator. Why they will need a person, Who messes up everything, whereever he goes” he added further.
With these sort of harsh words from the former president’s side, indeed Sumathipala’s game has been finished. However, he is still not accepting that he can’t fool all the people’s all the time!
