Former Sri Lanka stumper batsman Prasanna Jayawardene has been appointed as the wicket keeping consultant of the England team. Currently the English team is playing an ODI series in Sri Lanka and is scheduled to play three tests and one of T20I as well during the tour.
A veteran of 58 tests, Prasanna was regarded as one of the finest wicket keeper in world cricket. Though, his shorter formats career couldn’t prosper due to more accomplished Kumar Sangakkara, he was a vital part of Sri Lanka’s test side. Of late, his batting improved a lot and he played many memorable knocks for Sri Lanka in lower middle order. Cricket Age learns that England Coach Trevor Bayliss played an important part in the hiring of Prasanna.
“As a former Sri Lanka Coach, Trever knows how valuable Prasanna Jayawardene could be for England. He recommended Prasanna and we are delighted to associate him for our Sri Lanka tour” a top ECB official told Cricket Age.
Though, he last played for Sri Lanka in way back in 2015, Prasanna has not officially announced retirement and is still playing club cricket and doing coaching in UK.
