Sampath Hettiarachi, the Coordinator of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) brain Centre has reportedly threatened board’s IT Manager over the attempted fraud of 11.1 million dollars, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Last month, when it was emerged that three SLC employees has tried to transfer the television rights money to an offshore account, the board unsuccessfully attempted to put all the blame on IT department by saying that finance department’s email were hacked. However, later it emerged that it was just a lame excuse by SLC CEO Ashley De Silva, who was trying to protect the ‘real’ culprits.
According to sources, after CID arrested SLC Chief financial officer on Monday, Sampath threatened IT manager to mind his own business.
Not only this, after that he went to SLC HR department and lodged a complaint against IT manager in order to hide his misdeed.
It is noteworthy that Sampath has been considered as one of the close associate of former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala. Even with no qualification, Sumathipala brought him from Australia to SLC and to make things worse appointed him as the incharge of brain centre.
Few years back, Sampath was caught in the dressing room of the Sri Lanka team during confidential meeting. The Anti Corruption Unit of International Cricket Council (ICC), who is currently focusing on Sri Lanka regarding various suspicious activities of match fixing, is investigating that particular incident also. The former anti corruption officer at SLC has also made a report on this.
