Former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala has had many intimidating qualites : he believes that he is the god gift to cricket, he believes that he is the one and only person to run the cricket board and most importantly he shamefully tells lies about board profits and always tries to brand himself at any given chance.
Furthermore, he has the backing of the incompetent SLC Top officials, who unconditionally supports him to safeguard themselves.
The farewell test of world cricket greatest left-arm spinner Rangana Herath is a classic example of Sumathipala’s unethical approach and SLC incompetent!
As hearth is playing his last international match for Sri Lanka, the ongoing Galle test against England, the entire cricket fraternity is hailing the retiring legend as one of the genius of the game!
However, on this historic occasion, SLC is busy praising and promoting Sumathipala, instead of Herath!
As Herath had announced in the beginning of the year itself that England series would be his last, the SLC has published a farewell book on his magnificent career!
However, as the SLC had published the book in May itself, it’s all about Sumathipala, as he was the president at that time.
Out of the 71 pages in the book, only 7 pages carries the photos of Herath. In comparison, 14 pages carries the photos of Sumathipala!
Not only this, on the cover page itself, SLC has put a false profit figure during the Sumathipala’s tenure. The cover page says that in last financial year, SLC gained 1.97 billion rupees. However, the reality is that 70 percent of that amount had come through the Indian team’s tour in 2017, which was signed by former SLC President Jayantha Dharmadasa and secretary Nishantha Ranatunga. Few days ago, Nishantha had also exposed this lie of Sumathipala during the Derana 360 live programme!
The spectators, who were present to witness the farewell test of Herath, termed it a shameful act of SLC. majority of Sri Lanka cricket fans knows it that SLC officials can go to any extent to benefit Sumathipala. But even then, it is pathetic that during the farewell test of one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic bowler, SLC is promoting Sumathipala!
